Death Valley Couples Session
This year, Death Valley National Park showed out, so naturally, we had to do a Death Valley couples session and it was so worth it!!
A desert full of endless textures and stunning landscapes, Death Valley is approximately 2.5 hours away from Las Vegas and definitely worth the drive!
Kaira and Derrick drove down from Vegas to celebrate their anniversary with a Death Valley couples session. They wanted something unique and different and that’s exactly what we did! We started our Death Valley journey at Zabriskie Point and then headed to Badwater Basin for sunset photos.
Zabriskie Point
Zabriskie Point is an iconic location and one of the most recognizable spots at Death Valley. It has an epic overlook showcasing the badlands, which is the colorful landscape of eroded mudstone hills. This was such a fun place to start the session, the depth and landscape are like no other!

Badwater Basin
Badwater Basin is a stunning spot for a Death Valley couples session and is the lowest point in North America, sitting at 282 feet below sea level.
Last year, Death Valley got a lot of rainfall and that caused Badwater Basin to be filled with ankle deep water, creating the temporary lake known as Lake Manly. This is a rare and infrequent occurrence that only happens when there is heavy rainfall. Although this doesn’t happen so often, Badwater Basin is still such a beautiful site without the water, with its endless salt flats. We were so stoked to have experienced Lake Manly when we visited!

Mesquite Sand Dunes
While we were visiting Death Valley National Park, I also had time to explore the Mesquite Sand Dunes, which are the easiest dunes to access and are known for some fun sand sledding!

Best Time To Visit
Timing is essential when planning your Death Valley couples session. The best time to visit is November – March! This ensures mild temperatures and comfortable weather.
Avoid visiting anywhere from June – September due to extreme heat. Death Valley hits high temperatures up to 110℉ and sometimes even hotter than that.
Death Valley has little to no cell service so I always recommend downloading the map before you head out on your adventure! Always bring tons of water and snacks during your trip to stay hydrated and energized!
